50 New Tracksuits for the Love Bugs in South Africa

June 30, 2021

We are delighted with these new images sent to us by our project partner “Butterfly Art Project” in South Africa.

Vrygrond is a township in Cape Town where the daily lives of parents and children are marked by violence, drugs, and hunger. The “Love Bugs” group consists of children who would otherwise spend their time on the streets. Twice a week for two hours, they engage in small art projects, such as learning about their cultural heritage, and experience peaceful cooperation within the group. They are individually cared for by art therapists. For many of the children, it is the first time they can learn in a calm and protected atmosphere. Many former “Love Bugs” are now attending school. Supported by the positive experiences in art therapy, parents and children recognize their possibilities and ways to develop further and take control of their future. In addition to the 40 children in the Love Bug group, 10 more children were able to be included.

All 50 children received brand new tracksuits, embroidered with the Ustinov Foundation’s logo, their first school uniform ever. They wear their light blue track suits with great pride. The Peter Ustinov Foundation, the Love Bugs, and the Butterfly Art Foundation say thank you! Your donation makes this successful art therapy work possible! Please continue to help to ensure this valuable aid project is sustainably secured.
