A Safe Home for Children in Uganda

February 11, 2021

The Deseret Community School in the village of Kyamagwa near Jinja, Uganda, has made two rooms available so that 15 children can have a protected home. The girls and boys come from families currently struggling to survive, living hand to mouth.

Due to the pandemic, they can no longer earn money, even simple day labor jobs have disappeared, and permanent jobs remain scarce. As a result, the families can barely make ends meet. The most vulnerable in the family, the children, suffer the most as they can no longer be provided with the essentials of life.

Together with others, in the rooms of the school, the children now have a bit of security, protection, and comfort. They regain a small piece of childhood and carefreeness. School principal Rose Lufafa and her team do their best to ensure their wards can experience a little bit of carefreeness and childhood in their new home.

The special care of these children in need is supported and expanded by the Peter Ustinov Foundation. This way, more impoverished children can be accommodated in the future, and the school can establish itself as a safe place within the village community.
