Closing Educational Gaps Together in a War Zone
Ustinov Foundation projects
About the project
Goal
Making Up for Missed Educational Opportunities in a War Zone
- The goal of the SCOLA+ project in Ukraine is to compensate for missed educational opportunities for children during the COVID-19 pandemic and the war.
- Due to school closures, many children have missed important learning content.
- To address this challenge, SCOLA+ was established.
- The project offers targeted tutoring to give children the opportunity to catch up on their missed educational content.
Project
Ukrainian Refugee Children Receive Broad Education in Various Subjects
- The project aims to provide comprehensive education in various subjects for Ukrainian refugee children in the safe villages of Bakosh and Botjowo in western Ukraine.
- A total of 200 children receive a broad education across four schools.
- Experienced teachers focus particularly on STEM subjects such as biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics.
- Additionally, children are provided with a curriculum that includes history and languages such as Ukrainian, English, and Hungarian.
- This aims to not only create a solid foundation in scientific disciplines but also to offer a diverse educational environment that provides children with a comprehensive perspective.
Success
Building Knowledge as Part of Ukraine’s Reconstruction
- The success of the project lies in providing direct and immediate support.
- The schools in the region had limited resources even before the war, and this project helps to close the resulting educational gaps.
- The enhancement of knowledge levels thus becomes a crucial element of the reconstruction process in Ukraine.
- Our initiative aims to nurture a generation of young, curious, and well-educated individuals who are not only shaped by current challenges but also capable of positively contributing to the future of their country.
