Goal

Promotion of Early Childhood Development in Rural Areas

  • Improving the Learning Environment: Creating a safe, healthy, and stimulating environment for 50 children aged 1 to 5 years by expanding the playground, equipping classrooms with additional play materials and furniture.
  • Supporting Educators: Conducting practical workshops in isiXhosa for 15 ECD educators and creating and distributing a comprehensive ECD manual for up to 50 educators.
  • Ensuring Long-Term Impact: Enhancing the learning and play conditions for the children, supporting educators in implementing effective care strategies, and promoting sustainable development of the daycare centre through ongoing support and evaluation.

Holistic Support for the Hillcrest Daycare Centres

  • Infrastructure Measures: Installation of a new playground to provide children with more opportunities for outdoor activities. Equipping classrooms with additional toys, books, and furniture, including carpets for the new room.
  • Resource Provision: Supplementing play materials and educational resources to create a creative and learning-enhancing environment.
  • Training for Educators: Conducting workshops to strengthen the skills of 15 ECD educators, and creating an ECD manual to support the practical application of the learned material.

Measurable Progress and Sustainable Improvements

  • Improved Learning Environment: By expanding the playground and providing additional resources, an environment is created that offers children diverse learning and play opportunities. The improvements are documented through regular visits and feedback.
  • Enhanced Educator Competence: The training and manual strengthen the skills of the educators, which is reflected in the quality of early childhood care. Success is evaluated through direct observations and feedback from the educators.
  • Long-Term Development: Sustainable support for the daycare centre promotes and ensures its ability to independently develop further and apply for additional government funding.
