Back to School in Kenya

February 25, 2021

We rejoice with the children in Butere. Finally, they can return to their preschool.

With the reopening of the ECD (Early Child Development) school, they regain a piece of normalcy and routine. Now, they have a place just for themselves, where they can be children again. In the school garden and in front of the classrooms, new mobile handwashing stations have been installed. Here, children can wash their hands anytime with water and soap. Only through the help of our donors was it possible to meet the many governmental COVID hygiene regulations and overcome the hurdle to reopening. This required many new purchases. The financial burden could not be carried by the regular school budget. In Kenya, preschools charge fees. Children whose families cannot afford the cost are at a disadvantage from the start of their education. The ECD school in Butere particularly supports disadvantaged girls between the ages of 1-12 with educational and awareness-raising measures, creating the foundation for a successful exit from a life of prostitution and poverty.
